Our Story
"La Xerra" 1950-1999
Casa La Xerra was renovated in 1999 on the site of an old building from the 1950s. The barn, or cowshed, was built by my father in the 1950s. I know where every single stone came from; stones of many different colors, each with its own story. He gathered them from the nearby hills, from riverbeds, or from the property itself. Beneath the plot where the house stands there was a huge limestone rock. From this rock comes the name La Xerra, which in the local language means “rock”; a rock that he broke into pieces with the help of dynamite and a great deal of hard work.

Casa de Aldea: 1999-2021
In this barn we had a few dairy cows, a horse named Rubí, and a ram called Piru. We made our living from milk production. The milk quota restrictions imposed by the European Community left us without a future, and we had to look for another alternative. Much later, to give the building a new purpose, renovation began in 1998 to convert it into a rural guesthouse (Casa de Aldea). For more than 20 years I dedicated myself enthusiastically to rural tourism, and it went well for me. I enjoyed it very much.
Casa La Xerra: Today
After those years, the time for retirement arrived, and I now offer Casa La Xerra as a holiday rental. My wish is for it to continue being a welcoming place where visitors can come to rest, enjoy the surrounding mountains, the song of the birds, and the views of the Güeña Valley and the Picos de Europa. This is one of the widest valleys in Asturias, a place where you truly breathe peace.
